After all metal has turned molten, let furnace run 2 more minutes to reach pouring temp. Molten aluminum pours at 1250 to 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. Thick castings 1 inch or more 1250. Thin castings 3/16 to 1/4 inch 1400.
Turn off gas to furnace and remove lid. My wife loves to mold and pour, she says it's therapeutic! Skim dross from molten aluminum with pre-heated skimmer.
Remove crucible from furnace and move slowly toward molds. Position crucible to pour in sprue.
Pour into mold keeping the sprue full, until molten metal comes out of pop-ups. Pour excess metal into a ingot or pig.
Allow mold to stand about 5 minutes to cool. Break apart sand mold and remove casting. The casting is hot, the sand is hot, everything is hot! Wear gloves.
Casting and gating system. Note vent and pop-up location. Completed casting.
